The staff at Oak Harbor Christian School is a dedicated group of hard working servants for the Lord Jesus Christ. Their commitment to love, nurture, and educate children fosters a Christ-like atmosphere at the school. Professionally our elementary staff are certificated teachers and continue to improve in their practice through ongoing professional development.
My desire that all children come to know the Lord, a passion for an excellent education that can only happen from a God-world view perspective and my love for supporting parents as their child’s primary teacher have brought me out of 10 years of retirement to the principal’s office at OHCS.
With 4 young children at home, I embarked upon an educational journey that began at Skagit Valley College and continued until I decided that traveling to the UW for a doctorate was just foolish. With a BA in Elementary/Secondary and Special Education, a Master’s Degree in Exceptional Children, and my Administrative/Principal’s credentials, I held almost every certificated position while working over 30 years for Oak Harbor Public Schools. During those years, following in my husband’s footsteps, 4 children and 3 grandchildren attended OHCS. Both my husband and I have served on the Board.
My prayer is that we can work together this year to discern the future God has planned for OHCS so that the school continues to be a strong Light for Him in our community.
As an adopted “import” Lynnette is a second generation Oak Harborite. Her mother was born “at the end of the runway” and her father moved here as a child. Her husband, Mike, moved here as a small child, too. They have two grown-up children who attended OHCS from preschool through eighth grade. Lynnette loves to cross-stitch in her spare time. God has been so good to Lynnette and she wants all children to be raised learning to know Him.
While growing up in Oak Harbor, Lynnette felt a strong pull toward mission work because of Nancy Nienhuis (Garden). Although God did not call her to a foreign country, she believes that OHCS is her life’s mission work, having been at OHCS for nearly 20 years. She attended all eight grades at OHCS and then on to OHJH and OHHS. Her college education was at Seattle Pacific College. She worked first as a dental assistant for a year, then at the U.S. Dept. of Health, Education & Welfare in Seattle for 7 years at various positions, and at the Dept. of Social & Health Services in Oak Harbor for almost 3 years. Lynnette assisted her husband in his Real Estate career and was a rental agent, a Tupperware dealer, and payroll clerk on a construction job site. She would like to do some more traveling some day. She has fond memories of a Mediterranean cruise she took in her early 20’s.
Carolyn was born and raised in the Everett-Marysville area here in Washington. She graduated from Cascade High School in 1977 and worked for the Everett K-Mart for 18 yrs. In 1995 she married Darren and the military moved them to Fallon, NV where their daughter Rebecca was born. Their family attends Family Bible Church and Carolyn was involved with the AWANA program for 7 yrs. Their family has been very blessed that God has provided a way for Rebecca to attend OHCS and all the friends they have made there. Carolyn enjoys helping others and being the tuition treasurer is the icing on the cake. She loves that she can be involved at such a wonderful school and thanks God for this exceptional opportunity. In Carolyn’s down time she enjoys camping with her family, spending time with her cat and visiting with friends.
Michelle is our preschool director and also teaches both MWF and TTH classes as needed. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree and has been teaching preschool since 2001. She and her family moved to Oak Harbor in 2003 when her husband, Doug was stationed at Whidbey Island NAS. Doug retired from the Navy in 2007 and instead of moving back closer to family they felt the Lord was leading them to stay in Oak Harbor. They have two wonderful children, Joshua and Natalie. In her spare time Michelle enjoys going to football games, volleyball games and track meets for the kids. She also loves tending to the family hobby farm, gardening and reading. She developed a love and desire to work with preschoolers through teaching her own children when they were younger. She loves it here at OHCS and feels very blessed to be a part of the Little Eagles team.

Gail has been teaching at OHCS for six years now in the Preschool program. It has been a joyful experience and she feels so fortunate to be here at this school. She has a degree in Elementary Education with endorsements in Early Childhood and Special Education. Gail has worked in Early Childhood for almost twenty years now and each year she learns so much more. Gail moved to Oak Harbor when she was in second grade and graduated from Oak Harbor High School. She has lived in a variety of other places as an adult with the most interesting being Japan. She loved the Japanese people for their friendliness and helpfulness qualities but she hated driving in Japan. Gail was there only for 2 1/2 years but had two major automobile accidents. Gail’s hobbies are gardening, quilting, hiking, and camping. She also enjoys reading novels, mainly sci-fi, and scientific books. One of the most interesting things that she has ever done was delivering a baby for a neighbor.
